Nagoya nurse, 62, accused of robbing taxi driver with scissors after warning over manners

AICHI (TR9 – Police in Nagoya have arrested a 62-year-old female nurse who allegedly threatened a taxi driver with a pair of scissors and robbed him of cash after he cautioned her about her passenger etiquette, reports Nagoya TV (June 23).

Mayumi Kakei, a resident of Nishi Ward, is accused of robbery following the incident that took place on the night of May 8.

According to police, Kakei boarded the taxi in the bustling Nishiki district of Naka Ward. During the ride, she reportedly became enraged when the 34-year-old driver warned her about her poor manners inside the vehicle.

Kakei then allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors, pointing the blades at the driver and threatening him. “Should I stab you? I’ll fucking kill you,” she said.

She then demanded cash from the driver, stating, “I’m not paying. You pay me.” Kakei snatched 5,000 yen in cash from the driver and fled the vehicle in the Amazukacho area of Nishi Ward, evading her 3,200 yen fare.

The driver was not injured in the incident.

Investigators were able to identify Kakei by analyzing footage captured by the taxi’s drive recorder.

Upon her arrest, Kakei admitted to the allegations. “I thrust scissors at him and took the money,” she told police.
