TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday announced the arrest of the number-two boss of the Kyokuto-kai organized crime group for making threats two years ago, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 9).

Officers from the Shibuya Police Station took Jin Takahashi, 72, and two other suspects into custody for threatening physical violence upon two former members who had recently resigned from the gang.

Takahashi and the other two suspects have reportedly denied the allegations, telling police that they were simply offering encouragement to the victims.

At the time of the incident, which took place inside the Kyokuto-kai’s headquarters in the Ikebukuro district of Toshima Ward in December of 2013, the gang was embroiled in internal trouble. Four days after the incident, the gang was involved in a shooting in Shibuya Ward’s Ebisu district.

Last month, police arrested Shinichi Matsuyama, 87, the number-one boss of the Kyokuto-kai, for allegedly committing bank fraud.
