YOKOHAMA (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Friday announced the bust of an Internet mail order business in Yokohama that sold illegal pornographic DVDs, reports the TV Asahi (Nov. 14).
On Wednesday, officers took Masaki Miyajima, the 34-year-old manager of the operation, which operated from inside an apartment, and Aya Ishii, 37, into custody for the possession of obscene media with the intent to sell. Officers also seized 1,200 DVDs and high-speed dubbing machines.
By law, films available and made in Japan are required to have genitalia properly censored.
Miyajima, who is also employed in the interior design industry, admits to the allegations. “I thought it would be a easy way to make a living,” the suspect is quoted by police.
According to police, the operation marketed 17,000 titles on the Internet, with one disc selling for as low as 150 yen. Since starting in September of last year, the suspects received 30 million yen in revenue through the sale of 200,000 discs.
