YOKOHAMA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police are considering applying criminal charges following the discovery of a corpse in the home of an elderly woman in Sakae Ward, reports the Nippon News Network (Jan. 5).
On Tuesday afternoon, a female employee from the Sakae Ward office visited the home of the woman, aged in her 60s, and found skeletal remains inside a bedroom.
The woman says that the remains are those of her husband. “A few years ago, I woke up one morning to find my husband had died,” the woman is quoted by officers from the Sakae Police Station. “Since I had money problems, a funeral was not possible. So I left him as is.”
The body did not exhibit any external wounds.
Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. They are also seeking to confirm the identity of the remains. Police may later arrest the woman on charges of abandoning a corpse.
