EHIME (TR) – In a word, unfair.

Ehime Prefectural Police arrested a man who traveled nearly 1,000 kilometers by taxi from the Kanto area to Matsuyama City — and did not pay the fare, reports TV Asahi (Aug. 15).

At around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Takafumi Arima, 26, hailed a cab in Yokohama, claiming to the driver that he would pay the fare to Matsuyama.

Upon arrival — nine and half hours and 850 kilometers later — the suspect admitted that he did not have the 270,000-yen amount on the meter.

Arima admits to the allegations.

Police are now attempting to determine a motive for the crime.
