OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 77-year-old man in the stabbing death of a man at an apartment building in Nishinari Ward, reports Nippon News Network (May 22).

At around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, an officer from the Nishinari Police Station found a man, believed to be the 74-year-old building manager, collapsed and bleeding at the first-floor entrance of Apartment Koyo, located in the Haginochaya area. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Police arriving at the building found Shomei Tamura near the crime scene with a fruit knife in his pocket.  “I was annoyed that he made fun of me so I paid him back,” police quoted the suspect, who was arrested the following day on charges of murder. “I never thought that he would die.”

Apartment Koyo is located approximately 200 meters from Haginochaya Station. The Haginochaya area contains flophouses and rundown eateries frequented by day laborers and homeless men.
