OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old man believed to be behind a number of incidents in which he spit coffee or other liquids on women in Higashi Osaka City, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Nov. 11).
On October 27 at around 10:55 p.m., Koichi Arima, who is self-employed, allegedly used a bicycle to approach a 26-year-old woman on a road in the Mikuriyasakaemachi area and spit a coffee-like liquid on the back of her head.
Arima then fled the scene. The woman was not injured.
Arima, who has been charged with assault, admits to the allegations, telling police he committed the crime out of spite following problems with a woman at work.
According to police, Arima is believed to have participated in 11 other similar cases involving coffee or other liquids since October 20.
Police identified Arima as a suspect after viewing surveillance camera footage in which he is seen purchasing coffee from a convenience store located near one of the crime scenes, according to Fuji News Network (Nov. 3).
