Man battered, robbed of ¥5 million during fake SNS car deal in Osaka

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police are hunting for two suspects who ambushed a man with a baton-like weapon and robbed him of 5 million yen in cash during a bogus car deal orchestrated on social media, reports Nippon News Network (June 15).

The victim, a man in his 20s from Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was found bleeding from the head on an Osaka City street after police received a desperate emergency call stating, “I got done in over a car purchase.”

According to police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of June 13. The victim had traveled to a designated location in the city to buy a vehicle from an individual he had been communicating with via social networking sites (SNS).

Upon arriving at the meeting spot, he was suddenly attacked by a duo wielding what appeared to be a police baton. The assailants repeatedly struck him in the head and snatched his bag containing the 5 million yen in cash before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.

Osaka police have launched a manhunt for the two fleeing suspects and are investigating the case as robbery resulting in bodily injury.
