Chinese woman suspected of smuggling 4 kg of cocaine

OSAKA (TR) – Authorities here announced the arrest of 48-year-old Chinese woman for allegedly smuggling cocaine dissolved in water and soaked into non-woven fabric, reports TBS News (Mar. 18).

In January, Du Xuexian, 48, a part-time worker, allegedly smuggled approximately 4 kilograms of cocaine — worth approximately 98 million yen — concealed in a suitcase she had upon arrival at Kansai International Airport from the Netherlands in January. She began her journey in Colombia.

According to Osaka Customs, Du the cocaine was dissolved in water, soaked it into a non-woven fabric and then folded into a file to disguise it as a catalog. The 84 pieces of fabric had been inserted between photographs.

Customs officials did not indicate whether she admits to violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Upon her arrival, a customs officer became suspicious of the relatively small amount of luggage she had for a passenger from South America. During questioning, the discovery of the contraband was made.
