AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to have been a murder-suicide following the discovery of two bodies at an apartment in Nagoya’s Nakagawa Ward, reports the Asahi Shimbun (June 22).

At 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, a deliveryman found a man, aged in his 60s, hanged under the stairs of the residence, located in the Minamiyagumacho area.

Officers from the Nakagawa Police Station arriving at the scene then discovered the stabbed body of Akira Horiguchi, a 74-year-old resident of the apartment, in a second-floor bedroom.

Police also found a blood-stained knife near the stairs.

Police suspect that the man found hanged shares the residence with Horiguchi. He is believed to have stabbed Horiguchi to death before taking his own life.

The residence is located about one kilometer from JR Kanayama Station.
