TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday arrested a 64-year-old man after a corpse likely that of his father was found inside their home in Hachioji City.
According to the Hachioji Police Station, Katsuji Sato is suspected of leaving the body at his home between September last year and October 13, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 14).
When questioned, Sato denied the charges. “I didn’t think my father was dead,” the suspect said. “I thought he was just sleeping.”
The residence is inside a public housing complex. The suspect lives there with his 90-year-old father.
On October 13, a staff member from a cleaning company entered the residence and found mummified remains in the living room and called police.
Sato explained to the staff member, “I have a father who can’t move, but don’t worry about it.”
Police are currently in the process of confirming the identity of the body.
