KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after a man found stabbed at an apartment building in Uji City later died, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 2).
At around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, the wife of Taketoshi Yamada, 75, alerted emergency services after finding him collapsed and bleeding near a stairwell on the first floor of the building, located in the Nozoe Gokasho area.
Emergency personnel arriving at the scene transported him to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
According to the Uji Police Station, Yamada had been stabbed in a number of locations on his upper body.
Yamada, a part-time worker, shared an apartment on the first floor of the building with his wife, police said.
Police are treating the case as murder.
A 40-year-old male company employee quoted by the Sankei expressed uneasiness that such an incident could happen, especially considering a park frequented by children is nearby. “I want the perpetrator to be caught as soon as possible,” the man said.
Update: Police have arrested Katsuhiko Nomura, 52, on charges of murder, reports Nippon News Network (Apr. 3). He has admitted to stabbing Yamada.
