TOKYO — Former YouTube sensations Nagomi and Ko-kun, once celebrated as the internet’s favorite “Nakonako Couple,” announced their divorce on May 5, pulling the plug on their marriage less than two years after tying the knot, reports Smart Flash (May 5).

The couple built a massive following of over 1.5 million subscribers between 2019 and 2025, dominating the couple-vlogger space with their relatable banter and undeniable chemistry. Their romance peaked publicly with a splashy proposal at the Tokyo Girls Collection in March 2024, followed by a marriage announcement in October of the same year.

However, the fairy tale was short-lived. In February 2025, the pair abruptly ended their joint channel to focus on solo endeavors. It appears the distance between them only grew from there.

In matching statements posted to their respective Instagram Stories, the split was framed as amicable.

“After repeated discussions as a married couple, we have decided to walk separate paths for our own personal growth and new challenges,” Nagomi wrote. She described their nine years together as “irreplaceable” and called Ko-kun her “greatest supporter.” Ko-kun echoed the sentiment, expressing his gratitude.

Revenue stream evaporated

Following the closure of their joint channel, the couple’s career trajectories diverged. Nagomi capitalized on her striking looks, pivoting to high-profile modeling. She secured global tie-up campaigns with luxury jewelry brand Harry Winston and a collaboration with Burberry Beauty fragrances.

Ko-kun, meanwhile, struggled to maintain momentum. After he launched a solo YouTube channel focused on drinking and chatting with guests, his video uploads stalled for months at a time, eventually transitioning to Instagram where his updates completely ceased before a sudden, lackluster return just a week prior to the divorce announcement.

With all previous videos from the lucrative “Nakonako Channel” deleted, the duo’s shared revenue stream evaporated, laying bare the overwhelming financial disparity between the two.

Entertainment insiders suggest that this brutal gap in career success and earning power inevitably created an unbridgeable divide in their values as a married couple.
