OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury after he allegedly broke into a residence in Kawachinagano City, assaulted an elderly woman, and fled with her cash, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 12).
At around 4:00 p.m. on September 11, the suspect, identified as company employee Atsushi Tsuda, entered the 89-year-old victim’s home through an unlocked front door while the elderly woman was home alone.
According to police, Tsuda punched the woman in the face and bound her with adhesive tape. He then snatched a bag containing approximately 50,000 yen in cash before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The victim sustained minor facial injuries in the attack.
Investigators tracked the suspect down by analyzing local security camera footage. Officers subsequently apprehended Tsuda at his residence in Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture.
During police interrogation, Tsuda admitted to the allegations. “I was struggling to make a living and was desperate for money,” he told investigators.
