TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman who is suspected of masterminding an illegal employment syndicate that funneled foreign nationals into unauthorized jobs this year, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 9).
Nguyen Thi Huyen, a former part-time employee at a staffing agency, is accused of providing work to foreigners that explicitly violated their visa statuses. According to police, between January and June, Nguyen unlawfully arranged a package-sorting job for a 32-year-old Vietnamese man.
Upon her arrest, Nguyen partially denied the allegations of being the group’s mastermind. “I was just deceived,” she told investigators during questioning.

Despite her denial, police believe Nguyen was at the helm of a highly lucrative illicit operation. The MPD suspects that over a two-and-a-half-year period, her group brokered illegal employment for approximately 250 Vietnamese nationals, raking in at least 20 million yen in the process.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full scope of the syndicate’s inner workings.
