TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police and other authorities have arrested two Vietnamese men who are suspected of committing approximately 100 burglaries across the Kanto region, reports TBS News (Jan. 20).
The two men arrested on suspicion of theft and other crimes are Ha Ngoc Tu, 26, and Hoang Van Hai, 37, both Vietnamese nationals and residents of Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture.
They are suspected of breaking into a home in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture last October by using a glass cutter or other tool to remove a first-floor window. They then allegedly stole 100,000 yen in cash from the second floor.
Police have not revealed whether the two suspects have admitted to the crimes.
According to police, approximately 100 thefts using a similar method have been confirmed across Tokyo and 10 prefectures since around June of last year.
Stolen include cash watches, and other valuables with an estimated value of 38.5 million yen.
Police and other authorities are investigating whether the two suspects were in fact behind the other crimes.
