Two Tokyo firefighters arrested for sexually assaulting teen in hotel

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two members of the Tokyo Fire Department on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a hotel, investigative sources revealed on Friday, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 22).

The suspects have been identified as a 31-year-old firefighter assigned to the Akabane Fire Station and a 28-year-old senior firefighter from the Joto Fire Station.

According to the Hongo-Fuji Police Station, the two men are accused of non-consensual sexual intercourse with a woman in her teens early Thursday at a hotel in the Yushima area of Bunkyo Ward.

Investigators revealed that the two men initially picked up the victim and another woman on the street in Ueno, Taito Ward, before the group of four went drinking. After the victim’s companion went home, the suspects allegedly lured the remaining teenager into the hotel by lying to her. One of them claimed, “Another female friend is coming to join us later.”

The incident came to light when the young woman filed a report with police later that same day.

In the wake of the arrests, the Tokyo Fire Department addressed the scandal. “It is a fact that our personnel have been arrested, and we take this matter very seriously,” the department said in a statement. “We will confirm the facts in detail and deal with the situation strictly.”
