GUNMA (TR) – Gunma Prefectural Police have arrested five suspects, including a male Turkish national, for illegally dumping waste on Mount Akagi earlier this year, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 5).
In October, Demir Erdal, 46-year-old president of an industrial waste collection and transportation company, and his associates are suspected of illegally dumping approximately 3 tons of concrete debris and other materials in a clearing in Mount Akagi.
Police have not revealed whether the five suspects admit to the crime.

A local resident reported the illegal dumping in July. Police conducted undercover investigations and implemented checkpoints, which led to the arrests.
Demir and his associates are believed to have collected waste from demolition sites in Tokyo, Saitama Prefecture and other areas on the company’s premises in Saitama.
They then transported the waste to Gunma Prefecture inside a 10-ton dump truck and buried it in the ground using heavy machinery.
The investigation is ongoing into whether there are any additional accomplices.
