TOKYO (TR) — A three-man gang robbed four men of two kilograms of gold bullion after assaulting them and spraying them with tear gas in Katsushika Ward on Tuesday afternoon, police said, reports Fuji News Network (Apr. 28).
At shortly after 1:30 p.m., an emergency caller reported a street brawl in the Higashi-Shinkoiwa area, telling police, “I heard a voice yell, ‘Hey!’ and when I looked, men were fighting each other over a bag.”
According to investigative sources, the four victims were carrying the two kilograms of gold in a backpack, intending to exchange it for cash. The three suspects suddenly ambushed the group, repeatedly punching the victims and unleashing tear gas before snatching the gold and fleeing the scene.
All four victims sustained injuries in the violent struggle, though none are considered life-threatening.
Tokyo police have launched a manhunt for the three fleeing suspects, treating the brazen daylight attack as a robbery resulting in injury.
