TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a temporary worker over the alleged illicit filming of a woman through the door mailbox of her apartment in Musashino City earlier this year, reports TBS News (Nov. 13).
At around 7:00 p.m. on September 4, Akifumi Iwasa, 30, inserted a roughly 3-meter-long cord with a small camera attached to the end through the slit in the mailbox and took tosatsu (voyeur) footage of the woman, aged in her 50s, getting changed.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Law Banning the Taking of Sexually Explicit Photographs, Iwasa, who lives in Musashino, denied the allegations. “It wasn’t for sexual reasons, I just wanted to see into the woman’s life,” he said.
As the incident unfolded, the the woman noticed the cord, opened the front door and found Iwasa standing there. She then called police.
Iwasa fled the scene. However, police arrested him on suspicion of trespassing into another apartment last month.
Media seized by police during the investigation included two videos that appear to have been secretly filmed of other women. Police are investigating the possibility that he may have committed other crimes.
