Tochigi teacher planted dozen spy cams around school

TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have arrested a 38-year-old male teacher who is suspected of planting hidden cameras around the high school where he works in order to film girls, reports NHK (Aug. 13).

Earlier this month, Daisuke Furuguchi, who lives in Utsunomiya City, is suspected of trespassing into a girls’ locker room at the school, installing a small camera with video recording capabilities in the ceiling and taking tosatsu (voyeur) footage of a girl while she changed clothes.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Law Banning the Taking of Sexually Explicit Photographs and trespassing, Furuguchi admitted to the charges. He said, “I enjoy secretly filming.”

Police arrested Furuguchi on Wednesday. Separately, more than 20 small cameras were discovered in around 10 locations, including girls’ restrooms and locker rooms, at the high school. Police were notified and began an investigation.

During an examination of the cameras, they discovered that Furuguchi was likely involved.

Chihiro Nakamura, the superintendent of the Tochigi Board of Education, said, “The arrest of a teacher is extremely regrettable, and I sincerely apologize for betraying the trust of the people of the prefecture. We will investigate the facts and take strict action, while also working to raise awareness among all teaching staff.”
