Stabbing at Shizuoka ‘girl’s bar’ leaves manager, employee in critical condition

SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police arrested a man after a stabbing at a speciality bar in Hamamatsu City early Sunday left the female manager and a female staff member in critical condition, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 6).

At around 1:00 a.m., Ichiro Yamashita, 41, allegedly used a knife to stab the female manager in the back. The woman, 27, was unconscious when she was taken to a hospital.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Yamashita, who lives in Fukuroi City, admitted to the allegations.

The female staff member, aged in her 20s, was also stabbed inside the bar. She also remains unconscious, police said.

The bar is a so-called “girl’s bar,” which is licensed as an eating and drinking establishment (inshokuten) but provides services close to those at a hostess club.

Police are now investigating whether trouble between the staff and Yamashita led to the incident.
