SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 60-year-old unemployed man for drunk driving after he was found passed out in a convenience store parking lot, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 14).
According to police, a passerby contacted authorities at around 10:00 p.m. on September 13 to report that a person had collapsed outside a convenience store in Shimizu Ward of in Shizuoka City.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the suspect heavily intoxicated and lying on the ground next to a passenger car registered in his name. A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed his blood-alcohol concentration was more than three times the legal limit.
Suspecting the man had driven himself to the store while inebriated, investigators reviewed footage from nearby security cameras. The video confirmed he had operated the vehicle on public roads prior to passing out.
Police formally placed him under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving shortly after 5:00 p.m. on September 14.
The suspect, a resident of the Umegaya area in Shimizu Ward, remains in custody as police continue to investigate the details surrounding the incident.
