Saitama man accused of kidnapping runaway girl from Kabukicho

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 37-year-old man from Saitama Prefecture for allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl from the Kabukicho red-light district earlier this month, reports Fuji News Network (July 6).

In late April, temporary worker Kentaro Yoshida is suspected of calling out to a teenage girl on a street in Kabukicho. “Let’s go to a hotel,” he reportedly said.

The suspect then took the girl to his home in Hamura City, Saitama and kept her there for over two months.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of kidnapping, Yoshida admitted to the allegations, police said.

The case came to light when the girl’s mother reported to police that her daughter had left their house in Gunma Prefecture and not returned home. Yoshida emerged as a suspect after an examination of security camera footage and other methods.

The girl was rescued on July 3. She was unharmed, police said.
