TOKYO (TR) – Former BE:FIRST member and actor Ryoki Miyama has canceled an upcoming public appearance following bombshell reports of a “double adultery” scandal with co-star Maria Kano, reports evening tabloid Nikkan Gendai (July 25).
Both Miyama, 27, and Kano, 33, are married. Miyama’s management agency announced on X that the actor will not attend the “Dai-ichi Life presents 6 ON DANCE no Hi 2026” event scheduled for August 11 due to the fallout from the affair.
Despite the scandal, both Miyama and Kano are currently continuing their roles in the stage musical adaptation of “Crash Landing on You.” An entertainment desk reporter noted that canceling the play would incur massive penalty fees and alienate sponsors.
“They admit to meeting secretly but are stubbornly denying any physical relationship, likely just to keep the production afloat,” the reporter said, adding that the atmosphere on set has become “extremely heavy.”
Illicit rendezvous
The affair has sparked intense public backlash, particularly due to its timing. Miyama only married 35-year-old actress Shuri — considered entertainment royalty as the daughter of legendary actor Yutaka Mizutani, 74, and former Candies idol Ran Ito, 71 — last August. The couple welcomed their first child in September, less than a year ago.
Shukan Bunshun this week detailed the brazen nature of the illicit rendezvous. Miyama reportedly drove a Lamborghini, picking up Kano on Minami Aoyama’s Kotto-dori while wearing a flashy Versace shirt, before the two headed into a luxury hotel in Shinjuku Ward.
Industry insiders are baffled by the recklessness. “It was far too bold to be a secret meeting,” one agency insider said. “To make a move on a co-star who also has a husband and child is an easily foreseeable disaster. It is a mystery why he committed such an act of folly.”
Departure from BE:FIRST
This is not Miyama’s first major tabloid controversy. He previously faced a massive financial dispute involving an estimated 100 million yen with a former fiancée, who was a popular YouTuber. After Shukan Bunshun reported on the scandal in 2025, Miyama apologized, which ultimately led to his departure from BE:FIRST, a temporary hiatus, and his shift to becoming an independent artist.
“You would think he had learned his lesson,” an entertainment producer remarked. “To repeat the same mistakes has left even those close to him in disbelief.”
Critics are now pointing out the stark hypocrisy of Miyama’s past public statements. The actor frequently preached in interviews about valuing human connections, claiming his motto was to “care for others” and build mutual happiness. Following his marriage to Shuri, he publicly stated that his family was his core motivation.
“One has to wonder what all those words meant,” an entertainment writer noted. “The focus now is on how he will possibly explain the immense damage he has caused to his wife and the prominent Mizutani family.”
