TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police launched a targeted crackdown on illegally modified vehicles gathering in the Akihabara district during Halloween festivities, citing 10 drivers, police said Sunday, reports TBS News (Nov. 1).
The sweep took place from Saturday night through the early hours of Sunday morning around JR Akihabara Station in Chiyoda Ward. The area has become a notorious gathering spot on Halloween night for motorists showing off customized rides, with this year marking the first time Halloween fell on a Saturday in six years.
During the operation, officers flagged down suspected vehicles to inspect them on the spot, checking engine bays and exhaust systems to determine whether components had been unlawfully tampered with.
According to police, the blitz resulted in 10 citations for offenses including illegal vehicle modifications.
