TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 36-year-old man who is suspected of using a crane to steal 29 steel plates from a construction site, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 19).
Last month, Yusuke Shimura is suspected of stealing 29 steel plates weighing 800 kilograms each from the construction site in Kokubunji City.
The plates have a retail value of approximately 2.93 million yen, police said.
During questioning, Shimura admitted to the charges. “I used a crane rented by my company to steal the steel plates and go sell them,” the suspect said.

The site is at the Musashi-Kokubunji Temple, a nationally designated historic site where construction work was underway to develop it into a park.
Tokyo police are currently investigating where the steel plates were sold.
