NARA (TR) – A man snuck into a university baseball clubhouse in Nara Prefecture and stole used uniforms and socks because he wanted sweat-scented clothing, police said on Tuesday.

Nara Prefectural Police arrested Torao Fukuda, a 30-year-old resident of Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, for allegedly sneaking into the unlocked clubroom at a private university at around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday to steal the used clothing including uniforms, undershirts, and socks of four players valued at some 18,000 yen, the Sankei Shimbun reports (November 22).

Fukuda, who has been charged with theft, admits to the charges, quoted by police as saying he “was interested in men and stole [the clothes] because I wanted sweat-reeking clothes.”

“I also snuck into other universities,” Fukuda was quoted as telling police.

Officers confiscated baseball uniforms of several other universities from Fukuda’s home.

Police are investigating other clubrooms at the university that also appeared to have been disturbed.
