HOKKAIDO (TR) – A 10-year-old donation box to support guide dog training was stolen from a community center in Sapporo, and later found emptied and destroyed at a nearby park, police said.
Sapporo city officials said a worker at a community center in Atsubetsu Ward filed a report with police after they noticed the donation box was missing from the first floor reception counter on November 24, NHK reports (Dec. 7).
The box containing some 2,000 yen was found empty and destroyed at a nearby park the next day, police said, adding an investigation is treating the incident as a case of theft.
Mina’s Donation Box
The donation box made its debut at the center 10 years ago as Mina’s Donation Box at the request of the Hokkaido Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, which hoped many guide dogs would actively play a big role like Mina, the prefecture’s first guide dog.
