AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police arrested a male driver for running over and killing a child because he was playing smartphone game Pokemon Go, NHK reported on Thursday (October 26).
Nobusuke Kawai, 36, was held on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in death for playing Pokemon Go behind the wheel resulting in him hitting and killing fourth grader Keita Noritake, 9, while he was walking across a crossing at an intersection in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture, at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Kawai has admitted to the charges, quoted by police as saying he “wasn’t looking ahead because I was playing Pokemon Go.”
“For a while now, I have always played Pokemon Go whenever I drove,” Kawai was quoted as saying.
There are no traffic lights at the intersection where Noritake was killed, and there were no brake marks on the road, police said.
