NAGASAKI (TR) – A court here last week handed a suspended sentence to a 31-year-old man charged with non-consensual sexual intercourse with a third-year middle school girl he met on social media, reports Nagasaki TV (Feb. 26).
At the Nagasaki District Court on February 26, presiding judge Torahiko Ota sternly criticized the unnamed man for the “vicious nature of the crimes.”
According to the verdict, the defendant, an office worker living in Nagasaki City, engaged in sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old girl he met on social media at a hotel in Omura City in April of last year.
The defendant also took obscene videos and still images of the girl.
He lured the girl to the hotel room under the pretense of giving her a gift. He then committed the crime three times within two weeks.
Furthermore, the judge noted that the defendant had previously been fined 300,000 yen for violating a prefectural ordinance. The judge added that “his sexual interest in minors is deeply rooted.”
However, taking into account the man’s 500,000-yen settlement with the victim and his remorseful attitude, judge Ota sentenced him to three years in prison, suspended for five years.
“Contribute to society”
Before the verdict was handed down, the defendant spoke with a trembling voice. He said, “I feel very ashamed of what I did. I caused trouble for many people. I don’t know what the future holds for my life, but I want to make sure I contribute to society.”
At the moment of the verdict, he took a deep breath, slumped his shoulders, looked up at the ceiling, and burst into tears.
