NAGANO (TR) – Nagano Prefectural Police have arrested a male driver involved in a rear-end collision in Nagano City last month.
Upon the arrival of police to the scene, the unnamed driver, 36, doused one officer with a can of chuhai, which is a type cocktail composed of the distilled spirit shochu, reports Nagano Asahi TV (Feb. 16).
At just after 8:00 p.m. on January 30, the car driven by the man collided head-on with another car traveling in the oncoming lane on a prefectural road in Nakano City.
The driver suffered minor injuries to his neck and other areas of his body.
After the accident, the driver called police. When police officers arrived, he was clearly intoxicated. Police believer he then drank the can of chuhai in front of the officers in an attempt to conceal that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
He then allegedly poured the contents of the can over the officer’s head.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury and evading detection of drunk driving, the man denied the allegations.
“I didn’t pour it on him, it just happened,” he said.
Police believe the man was driving while drunk and caused the accident by swerving into oncoming traffic. The investigation is ongoing into determining the exact cause of the accident.
