‘Megane man’ on run in Osaka after attempted robbery

OSAKA (TR) – A bespectacled would-be robber who posed as a deliveryman during the attempted robbery of an elderly woman in in Ikeda City on Wednesday remains on the run, police said, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 4).

At around 11:06 a.m., the man appeared at the woman’s home wearing a white cap, glasses (megane) and a breathing mask.

When the 76-year-old female resident greeted him at the front door, he allegedly pointed a knife at her and shouted, “I’m a robber!” He then pushed her down and kicked her in the face and chest.

When her daughter heard her mother scream and rushed to the front door, the man fled without taking anything.

“There’s someone with a knife,” the woman later said when calling police.

The woman suffered injuries to her face and other parts of her body that are not considered life-threatening.

So-called “megane man” was wearing dark clothing and carrying a black shoulder bag.

Police are seeking the whereabouts of the man on suspicion of robbery and assault. They believe the crime may have been committed by a tokuryu operation, which is an anonymous criminal group whose members communicate via smartphone apps.
