TOCHIGI (TR) – Police have detained a self-proclaimed teenager after a violent home invasion left a 69-year-old woman dead and her two sons injured in the town of Kaminokawa on Thursday, reports TBS News (May 14).
At around 9:30 a.m., police received a frantic emergency call from a male resident who pleaded, “It’s a robbery, my family was beaten with a crowbar.”
According to investigators, multiple suspects wearing black ski masks forced their way into the residence and brutally assaulted 69-year-old Eiko Tomiyama.
When her two sons, who are in their 30s and 40s, returned to the property, the attackers bludgeoned them one after another with crowbar-like weapons.
Tomiyama was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. Both of her sons sustained head injuries and remain hospitalized.
Shortly after the attack, police apprehended a youth walking near the crime scene. The suspect, who identified himself as a teenager, reportedly admitted to his role in the deadly attack, telling officers he “took part in the robbery.”
Witnesses in the neighborhood also reported seeing a suspicious individual dressed entirely in black, wearing a ski mask and carrying a crowbar near the residence.
Locals expressed shock over the brutal killing. “She was a kind person,” one neighbor said of Tomiyama. “She is absolutely not the type of person anyone would hold a grudge against.”
A heavy police presence remains at the scene as investigators interrogate the teenage suspect and launch a manhunt for the remaining assailants who fled. Police are pursuing the case as a potential robbery-murder.
