Man’s corpse found in canal in Mie

MIE (TR) – Mie Prefectural Police launched an investigation after the discovery of a man’s corpse in an irrigation canal in the town of Odai last week, reports the Ise Shimbun (June 28).

At around 4:25 pm on June 26, a security guard at the management office for the Miyagawa Irrigation Canal in Awo discovered the body floating on the surface of the water.

According to the Odai Station, the man is at least 50 years old. Of medium build, he stood about 170 centimeters tall.

The body was clothed in beige long pants and a large-sized pair of white trunks with blue vertical stripes. His head was shaved but with some gray hair.

The body showed no signs of external injuries. The man died up to three weeks before the discovery, police said.

Police currently seeking the cause of death and the identity of the man. The case is being treated as the result of foul play or an accident.
