Man admits to pickpocketing on trains ‘about 20 times’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 33-year-old man allegedly stealing a wallet from a woman on a Tokyo Metro train earlier this month.

During questioning, Yasunori Nozaki said that the incident was not his first, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 23).

On December 20, Yasunori Nozaki allegedly reached into the woman’s tote bag and stole her wallet, which contained approximately 28,000 yen in cash, on a Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line train near Futako-Tamagawa Station.

“I wanted to use the money for living expenses,” Nozaki said in admitting to the charges. “I have committed [this crime] around 20 other times.”

As the incident unfolded, police on patrol apprehended Nozaki.

The investigation is ongoing to connect the suspect to other crimes.
