Knife-wielding man slashes own neck during standoff at Fukushima pachinko parlor

FUKUSHIMA (TR) – Fukushima Prefectural Police apprehended a knife-wielding man in his 30s following a tense standoff at a pachinko parlor in Aizuwakamatsu City on Monday, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 6).

At around 7:30 p.m., the suspect, armed with a single bladed weapon, entered the Daiei Aizuwakamatsu pachinko parlor and barricaded himself — known as tatekomori — inside an employee breakroom.

Police confirmed that the man was completely alone in the room and did not take any hostages.

Approximately an hour and a half later, at around 9:00 p.m., officers moved in and secured the suspect. Upon capture, police discovered the man had turned the blade on himself, suffering a self-inflicted wound to his neck.

He was rushed to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. Authorities confirmed that no customers or parlor employees were injured during the incident.

Police plan to formally investigate the man on suspicion of trespassing once he recovers from his injuries.
