TOKYO (TR) – Kabuki actor Kamezo Kataoka, 64, died after a fire broke out at a confectionery factory and residence in Adachi Ward early Monday, authorities said, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 24).
According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police and the Tokyo Fire Department, a neighbor to the residence in Higashiiko called emergency services at around 4:00 a.m. to report smoke coming from the third floor.
The first floor is a confectionery factory. The second and third floors are residences. where the fire started. The fire was extinguished after about two hours, but two men on the third floor were taken to the hospital.
Kataoka, whose real first name is Jiro, was later confirmed dead. A male acquaintance in his 60s who lived there was injured but is reportedly conscious.
The fire started on the third floor. Tokyo police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
