IBARAKI (TR) – An active tax office worker in Ibaraki Prefecture has been handed a disciplinary dismissal after evading more than 130 million yen in taxes and scamming an elderly woman out of her cash, reports TBS News (Aug. 8).
The male employee, who worked at a local tax office, was fired after it was discovered he had failed to file tax returns on massive payouts he won through motorboat racing (kyotei), dodging approximately 130 million yen in taxes.
In addition to the tax evasion, the disgraced official allegedly received around 150 million yen in cash from an elderly woman under the guise of “pocket money.” He further defrauded the same woman out of more than 850,000 yen by abusing his position, falsely claiming to her that there was “an error in your amended tax return.”
The Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Taxation Bureau and other authorities have filed a criminal complaint against the former official on suspicion of violating the Income Tax Act and other related charges.
