TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested the 59-year-old owner of a juku (cram school) in Fuchu City for allegedly committing lewd acts on a male elementary school student during class, reports NHK (July 16).

According to police, Kazuo Nakayama is suspected of committing lewd acts on the boy, such as groping his body, during class last month.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of non-consensual indecency, Nakayama admitted to the charges. “It was for the purpose of pranks,” he said.

Nakayama was the sole instructor at the school. Given there were no private rooms, the crime is believed to have been committed in an open space where other students were present.

The incident came to light when the boy’s mother visited the police station and filed a complaint.

Approximately 25 elementary and middle school students attended the cram school. Police will continue to investigate whether there are any other children or students who have been victimized.
