Hakodate woman left corpse of brother in home due to ‘no money’

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested a 60-year-old woman for allegedly leaving a body believed to be that of her brother in their Hakodate City residence, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 20).

On Friday, police accused Fusae Yoneya of abandoning a corpse. “I had no money for cremation, so I left it there,” she told police in admitting to the allegations.

Earlier that day, police received a report that “there seems to be the body of an acquaintance’s brother” at the house.

When police investigated, they found the skeletal body inside. The person appeared to have been dead for a considerable period of time, police said.

Police are working to identify the body.
