Gunma interior contractor accused of stealing 29 air conditioners from vacant apartment

GUNMA (TR) – Police here have arrested an interior contractor for allegedly stripping a vacant apartment building of nearly 30 air conditioning units and outdoor compressors, reports Nippon News Network (July 10).

Takayuki Nakamura is accused of trespassing into multiple unoccupied rooms at an apartment building in Annaka City in May of this year. According to police, the suspect made off with 13 indoor AC units and 16 outdoor compressors, with a total estimated value of 29,000 yen.

Upon his arrest, Nakamura denied the allegations. “I did not steal them,” he told investigators.

The crime came to light when a person connected to the property contacted authorities, reporting that the outdoor compressors had vanished from the empty rooms.

Investigators revealed that Nakamura was familiar with the property, having previously visited the building to provide consultations for renovation work.
