SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the robbery and assault of a married couple living at their home in Sayama City last month, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 2).
At around 3:50 a.m. on February 19, Tatsuya Sato, 20, Sakito Iwata, 20, Ryuji Kamata, 25, and one other suspect are suspected of breaking into the home, assaulting the elderly couple, a 79-year-old man and his 78-year-old wife.
They also stole approximately 130,000 yen in cash, a watch and other items.
Police officers who responded to a call at the time found a car carrying the four suspects near the scene. The subsequent investigation identified them as the perpetrators of the crime.
Some of the stolen items and a crowbar were also found in the car.
Police have not revealed whether the four suspects admit to the allegations.
The four suspects are acquaintances. They are believed to have traveled to the scene via motorcycle and the car. They broke into the home through an unlocked space.
Police are investigating the possibility that the four committed the crime after learning that there was valuable property in the house, as Iwata lives near the crime scene and was acquainted with the couple.
