TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested four men accused of breaking into the home of an elderly woman in Toshima Ward and stealing over 4 million yen in jewelry, with investigators suspecting an insider tip-off led to the crime, reports Nippon News Network (July 22).
According to police, Ryu Kamihira, Fumiya Kosuge, and two other accomplices conspired to break into the residence of a woman in her 80s who lives alone. In April of this year, the group allegedly smashed a glass window to gain entry, making off with 14 items, including necklaces, valued at approximately 4.2 million yen.
During questioning, Kamihira partially denied the allegations against him, while Kosuge has exercised his right to remain silent, police said.
Investigators believe the home was specifically targeted. Kosuge, who is employed at a home remodeling company, is suspected of scoping out the residence and passing the victim’s information to the rest of the burglary ring.
Police are continuing its investigation and probing a potential link to an event approximately six months prior to the break-in, when an unidentified home remodeling company paid a visit to the elderly woman’s home.
