AICHI (TR) – Police in Toyokawa City launched an investigation after an elderly woman and a man were found dead inside an apartment following reports of a foul odor on Sunday, reports TV Asahi (July 5).
According to authorities, a neighbor contacted emergency services around 2:00 p.m., reporting a “strange smell” emanating from a unit in an apartment complex in the Kanayahonmachi area.
When officers rushed to the scene, they discovered the man, aged in his 60s, collapsed on a futon. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead approximately one hour later.
Inside the apartment’s bathroom, police also discovered the lifeless body of an elderly woman.
Investigators believe the deceased are a mother and son who lived together in the residence. Autopsies are scheduled to be conducted on Monday to determine the exact causes of death, with police closely examining the circumstances and keeping the possibility of foul play in mind.
