Employee at auction site embezzled funds due to ‘not being paid enough’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a former employee of an internet auction site operator on suspicion of embezzling company funds, reports Fuji News Network (July 24).

Yuki Ogawa, 37, is suspected of embezzling approximately 3.8 million yen by transferring it from the internet auction site’s account to his own account.

Ogawa was essentially in charge of running the site. Upon his arrest, he said, “I was not being paid enough for the amount of work I was doing.”

Ogawa was also in charge of accounting. When expense payments fell behind, the parent company investigated and discovered the fraud.

The company says Ogawa of embezzled a total of approximately 15 million yen. Police are investigating whether he may have committed any other crimes.
