Elderly man plows vehicle into supermarket in Fukuoka

FUKUOKA (TR) – A car crashed deep into a supermarket in Munakata City on Wednesday, leaving groceries and other products scattered everywhere, police said, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 11).

At just before 3:00 p.m., the 86-year-old man drove the car through the entrance, shattering glass and damaging displays before coming to a stop about 20 meters inside.

The man said, “I mistook the accelerator for the brake.”

In the accident, a woman in her 70s who was shopping inside the store was hit from behind and suffered minor injuries to her right hand.

Police are investigating, believing the man made the driving error while turning to park.
