Director Shinji Hamasaki released after drunk driving arrest

TOKYO (TR) – Film director Shinji Hamasaki was released on Friday following his arrest this week for allegedly causing an accident while drunk in the capital, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 27).

“I apologize for the inconvenience caused to everyone due to my reckless actions. I am truly sorry,” Hamazaki, 49, said upon his release around 9:00 p.m.

On February 25, Hamasaki was behind the wheel of a Porsche that skidded oon a street in Todoroki, Setagaya Ward. The vehicle then crashed into a taxi and other vehicles in the oncoming lane.

The results of police officer’s breathalyzer test resulted in an alcohol level that exceeded the legal limit, which led to his arrest the following day.

Hamasaki directed of the “Mitatarou” commercial series for mobile phone company Au. He also directed the film “Baban Baban Ban Vampire,” which was released last year.
