Defense academy staffer accused of trespassing in female student’s apartment acted on ‘impulse’

KANAGAWA (TR) – Police have arrested a 27-year-old staff member of the National Defense Academy for allegedly trespassing into the apartment of a female university student in Yokohama City, reports TBS News (Apr. 30).

Koya Hirano is accused of unlawfully entering the residence of a 21-year-old college senior in Kanazawa Ward on April 22.

According to police, the victim was home alone when she heard the sound of her front door opening. When she looked toward the entryway, she found Hirano standing inside her apartment. He reportedly stood there in silence before immediately turning around and fleeing the scene.

The suspect and the victim had no prior acquaintance.

Upon his arrest, Hirano admitted to the allegations, telling investigators, “I got an impulsive urge to go inside.”

However, there is a discrepancy regarding how he gained entry. While Hirano claims he let himself in because “the door was unlocked,” the young woman maintains that she had locked the door.

In response to the arrest, the National Defense Academy released a statement saying, “We will deal with this matter strictly and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
