IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police launched an investigation after the discovery of a corpse in a stream in Ishioka City last week, reports the Ibaraki Shimbun (June 25).
At around 4:15 pm on June 24, officers from Ishioka Police Station found the body lying face-up in a stream in a forests in Omasu.
The body had decomposed and was partially skeletal. The gender and approximate age of the person are unknown, police said.
Prior to the discovery, a 73-year-old man who was walking nearby called police to report an abandoned vehicle on a mountain path.
Several officers then searched the area. The stream where the body was found was several hundred meters away from the vehicle.
Police are working quickly to identify the body. The results of an autopsy will determine the cause of death. The case is being treated as the result of foul play or an accident.
